I still have a couple months until I get everything up and running in my 220 (72x24x30) but I thought that would throw what I am thinking for stock up here to see what everyone thinks. The tank will be filtered by a 75 gallon Sump and an Eheim 2262. Any additions? Any Subtractions? I am aware that the Parrot will be the wildcard. Everything with * is stock I currently own.

1 x Hoplarchus psittacus *
6 x Geophagus Orange Head Tapajos*
1 x Leporacanthicus joselimai (Sultan Plec)*
1 x Panaque cf. nigrolineatus (Watermelon Plec)
6+ Cordoras Sp ???? (Already Have 6 Metae and 2 Sterbai)
2 x Satanoperca jurupari

Have you ever kept Panaque sp before? They are exclusive wood feeders, and they produce a lot of waste (wood is difficult to extract nutrients from, so they eat and poop constantly). If you have a prized piece of driftwood in your tank it will gradually disappear before your eyes! The bigger issue for me is the mess - my filters clogged weekly with the waste produced by these fish, and on top of that I was always vacuuming piles of poop off the substrate. I removed a 4" Panaque from a 110 gallon tank recently and there was an incredible reduction in the amount of waste accumulating in the filter each week.

Don't get me wrong, Panaque are great fish and worth keeping if you are willing to address their needs. I've kept a couple of Panaque but prefer Baryancistrus (e.g., L-018 gold dust pleco) - they are grazers and do not chew wood in any appreciable way. Much less messy as well.

Not sure if I'd bother getting more Corys - the Geophagus and Satanoperca sift through sand constantly, and may not leave much for the catfish. If you do keep Corys with them, be sure they are getting food as well (Geos are very active and will steam roll the the Corys to get to food). Personally, I opt for a larger group of S. jurupari (or S. leucosticta) over more Corys. Another possibility - a threadfin acara (Acarichthys heckelii)

Regardless, sounds like you have the makings of a gorgeous setup. Good luck!

I agree here ... Satanoperca aren't really found in nature in groups less than 5 except when paired off for breeding. I would either go more or not add any. And two groups of Geo's might be a bit much for the footprint. Remember the jurupari/leucosticta get another couple of inches larger than the Orangeheads.

All great info. I guess I knew that the Panaque ate wood but I didnt know that they were such a mess to deal with. I may need to rethink that. For some reason I didn't think that Jurupari needed to be in groups like the Orange Heads do,but bow that I read a bit it looks like they do. I may need to rethink that as well. I thought that it would be getting crowded in there with more than two. Thanks for the input guys!
