I have two good sized pleco's & I also have an outdoor pond w/ lots of algea, do you gouys think I could scape some off & feed it to my pleco's?

is there any algae in the tank?? you could put pieces of cucumber in the tank for them to feed off.. or get algae waffers. I suppose you could use your pond algae but becareful of cross contamination of possible diseases that your aquarium may not be exposed to that your pond is.

what are your plecos? there are probably more plecos that wont touch algae than would, and not even all the omnivorous plecos will eat algae.

hmm yea try it, would be interesting if they take it as food. save on algae wafers eh! lol, but like dr sudz said, watch out for cross contamination ponds outside will be different from tanks

I feed them a variety of foods, wafers, catfish pellets, brine shrimp, bloodworms, plankton, beefheart, etc... But they are getting pretty big & I'd like to make sure they are getting enough food.

you could just wait till it's warmer and put one or both plecos out in the pond for the summer. they might go through a bit of a growth spurt though. :grinyes: I've heard of many people keeping their fish in tanks during the winter and in outdoor ponds during the summer. :)

Yeah I think I'm going to do that, I'm just worried about getting them out - the damn thing is 5ft deep
