Lynnwood, Washington what!
Found this and tried to search MFK to see if anybody had posted it, couldn't find a thing. So i'm gonna share heh. Very interesting sounds that some catfish can make.

http://www.cumv.cornell.edu/staff/friel.html

Auchenipterichthys, an auchenipterid catfish from South America.
Bunocephalus, an aspredinid catfish from South America.
Dianema, a callichthyid catfish from South America.
Platydoras, a doradid catfish from South America.
Synodontis, a mochokid catfish from Africa.

are the fish that have been recorded. You may have to dl to hear the sounds in your media player.

Now IME i keep a Striped Raphael catfish and 5 Banjo Catfish. Both are repesented on that site, but i've only heard my Striped Raphael Catfish. Now the tank with the striped is in my room and the Banjo's are in another room. So i may have missed them speaking heh.

Question is have you heard your catfish lately?

Yes...Doridae species were the first that I've heard of that were able to produce sounds. I used to have a Talking Catfish (P. Hancockii) that would make noise, but only did this when taken out of the water. I've heard that Striped Raphael and Spotted Raphael cats do the same. The noise is produced when they rub their pectoral fins inside their sockets (I guess they kind of "pop" their shoulders, so to speak).

Yeah man my Tiger Shovelnose maked a croaking noise when my pictus catfish messed with him. Had to move the pictus to another take.
