I have a sour smell coming from my water and it's stinking up my apt. I did a 30% WC last night and added a pack of bio chem-zorb that I had laying around, it helped some but the water still stinks. Do you think SeaChem Prime is causing this?

sea chem Prime apparently does smell bad, although I don't use it, I have heard it smells like a "wet fart in a shower" LOL to quote from a thread from another board..

Yeah the stuff smells horrible but I figured once in the tank it would dissipate.

Never had a sour smell from my tank. I always believed that Carbon helped with tank smells and whatever else and used it on a frequent on/off basis, but I always had the same smell. I tried zeolite as well, but the same smell was there. I stopped using chemicals altogether about 2 months ago and haven't had a smell since. I think it may be an underfiltered situation. IMO

The tank is a 125g with two Rena XP3's and one AC110. :)

I don't know about SeaChem but I know Prime smell like rotten egg if you don't close the cap tight.

Seachem is the company that makes Prime. :nilly:

Ok well the smell can come from a few different things but the biggest cause of stinky tank syndrome is dirty gravel, left over food sinking into the gravel and then rotting, so I would recommend doing a really really good gravel vac, and that should solve your problems.

when you do the big gravel vac remove any decor and such when you do the gravel vac because food and gunk gets trapped under plants and other decor, also while you have the decor out, that would be a good time to wash everything...

I forgot to mention that Seachem prime has nothing to do with the smell of the water...
