I have been interested in keeping eartheaters for a while now and would like to start doing some research for my future setup. I am not really sure where to look for information. I did some searches on this site and didn't have very much luck besides Japes' logs of his tanks (which have been a wonderful resource). If anyone could direct me to a site or thread, I would really appreciate it. I know that they have very specific requirements, and I want to make sure I know exactly what I'm doing before I get started with them.

Thanks,
Katie

Hi Katie,

When researching online it's very much a case of asking around and finding information that can be verified by multiple sources. There's a few very experienced Eartheater keepers here on MFK, and we (I'll include myself in that group) also get around on Cichlid-Forum. Feel free to send me a PM with questions whenever you want - I've always got time for people with a genuine interest and are actually seeking advice to adhere to.

If you find a copy available, which is no easy task, South American Eartheaters by Thomas Weidner is without a doubt the single best source for Eartheater information, particularly husbandry.

Thanks so much Japes :) PM sent. I have been over on cichlid forum looking for info as well, but last I checked the search feature was broken which makes finding specific threads more difficult.

I found South American Eartheaters by Thomas Weidner on amazon after Japes suggested it to me, at the time (a couple of weeks ago) there were 3 copies available. Just be forewarned, they are pretty pricey.

Thanks :) I did a search earlier this morning and found some on amazon for $350 each. That's too pricey for me, but hopefully one of these days I'll be able to afford some good cichlid reference books.
