I live in a hard water area GH 19 and ph 7.7 I have always had what i thought were all SA cichlids but now realise some are CA cichlids , what are best for my water conditions (dont want to go african)
is it true that CA like hard water more than SA ?
I have rainbow cichlids , Texas EB acara , yellow acara and syno
also what would get on with these and like conditions
any advice welcome

In my experience when you buy fish from a lfs that's gets their fish from a big fish farm, it doesn't really matter. I've read it matters more with wc. But I've never owned wc.

^ Just acclimate properly and you should be fine.

Many Central Americans come from waters with a pH above 8.
I have been keeping and breeding CA and SAs for over 5 decades in tap water with a pH higher than yours.
That said I have not been able to keep some of the more sensitive A Americans, like Uaru fernadenzeppii or some of the wild angels in my water.

cool thanks for replies.
my firemouths look all washed out colour wise , is this likely the water or something else.

There are probably very few easy to obtain SA and CA cichlids that you will have to worry about. A bigger concern would be keeptng your water nice and clean wirh water changes. Even there most of these cichlids are happy with a 40 percent change once or twice a week. Watch your Rainbows your Texas may get a little too aggresive with them.
