South American Cichlid Tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have a 240g canoe el posso tank in my den
with 1 demon earth eater, 1 checker board, 1 choclate, 1 severum, 1 dwarf pike, & 1 festivum

sorry about that last reply I forgot what forum I was posting in

ok so on this tank to make it as naturel as posible I use

20 grit silica sand for my subtrate with some maple leaves
drift wood and plenty of it a few rocks here and there some of the drift wood hanging down from the top
I have two sumps one with plenty of plants in it and one is a wet/dry
I use the plants in the sump because I have never had any luck keeping them in the tank with cichlids
twe power heads to make a good curent

I think I must have done something right becuase I have never had any problem in this tank all the fish get along good and are healthy and they all look great

I would like to make more of my fish tanks more of a natueral setting for all my fish I'm just to lazy this tank was a trail and I would have to say it went great it has been sett up like this for about a year and a half now

I think you should do is first think of what fish you want and then study up on the rivers and streams in that area at least thats what I did I picked one stream and then tried to make my tank as much like that as I could

hope I was a help :mr-t:

look in "the cichlid room" google it ad they have a section on native habitats and what fish are found there together.
