Hi everyone,
I want to set up a 200 gal. South American community tank. Any suggestions/ideas on what fish to put in it? I want to do top, middle, and bottom dwellers. I just want to hear what kind of suggestions/ideas are out there. Thanks for your input!

there are two ways to do this, a peaceful community or a semiaggressive/aggressive community first step is to choose which one you want

Personally I like Parachromis Friedrichsthalli. You could always get a Polypterus, or some kind of Spiny Eel for the bottom.

if you wanted peaceful i would say tetras, discus, angelfish, black ghost knife fish, hatchetfish, and bushynose plecos

ceeej's idea sounds really pretty. But, I really like oscars. They're too cute and they never cease to amuse; they're like puppy dogs. There all kinds of cichlids they can go with to give you a dynamic, colorful community tank.

Geos and corys on the bottom, a couple schools of tetras, I like red eye tetras and black neons, in the middle regions (at least 40 of each). And some hatchetfish on the surface....

I've been wanting to do a tank like this for a while. I'd do rotkiel severums, and true parrot cichlids hoplarchus psittacus, orange head tapajos earth eaters for the bottom, some kind of cool pleco (maybe a blue ghost or royal), and maybe a blue acara or two and I'm not sure about the top.

ofcourse if you want something a little more aggressive I would stock it with pirayas, or caribes.

you could do an arowana if you are doing an aggressive tank. also, some FW stingrays would be neat as bottom dwellers. maybe some peacock bass for the mid region too.
