I saw one at my lfs today and i like it. but i cant find anything about it. is it not a true gar? how long do they get?

What does it look like? I've seen that label attached to Ctenlucius Hujeta Hujeta, Boulengerella Maculata, and a few others. They look quite different, and odds are it is one of those two as they're the most common of the "false gars" out there. So...tell me what it looks like and I'll do my best 
Almost certainly a boulengerella. Get about a foot, pretty nervous, not aggressive, but predatatory.

ya it looked like the one in rallysman's post but a little more white and black but it might just be his pic. could i keep one in a 90 gallon 4'x18"x2'?
Yes I think you could, supposedly get around a foot but the biggest one I've seen was around 9 inches.
They are quite skittish, so just make sure there's nothing to freak them out and they'd be absolutely fine in a 90.

umm th tank is in our living room. so i dont know if that would be a verry calm place as i have a little sister
