Been thinkin bout a leaf fish. i know they eat basicaly only live fish so i was thinkin... plant a 30g put some guppies in there and let them spawn a few times and some ghost shrimp or somethin... then get a leaf fish as sort of population control cause i dnt think he will be able to clean out a 30 full of fish that spawn like crazy... idk i think thated be really cool it would almost be self sustaining only i would have to feed the guppies obviously but idk about to much about leaf fish but i thought it was a good idea... what yall think.

You might be surprised at how quickly the leaf fish begins to decimate the guppy population, but who knows. I have thought about trying the same thing with sedentary ambush predators like thalassophryna amazonica or chaca chacas

I think the leaf fish wold eventually wipe all of them out, or ge completely over populated by guppies, its very hard to keep a balance and ussually one or the other happens

Great idea i love SA leaf fish. I have a set up 180 with a huge black ghost knife. I breed swordtails in there. It seems to work out well, the BGK eats mostly earthworms and leaves the baby swords alone until they get big enough to eat. I think i am gonna add some leaf fish in there also!!!!

They're neat fish, but he WILL clean out the guppies eventually. They eat until they're stuffed and eat more once they digest some.
The need to be fed constantly. Weird for a fish that barely moves, but I had one and they will start to get skinny quick without constant feedings of a lot of little live fish. You can feed other live stuff like ghost shrimp too though.

I'd actually be kind of worried about the adult swordtails picking at fins. They just float around and they don't defend themselves. Their defense is essentially to sit and look like a leaf. I had some larger platys in with mine for about a day but they started to do some fin picking and I removed them.
