So I have a 40 breeder set up in which I'm growing out my 2 baby ornate bichirs until they can go in a big boy tank. I came across a listing for a baby South American Lung (which from what I gathered doing my research last time I got lungfish lust is the NICE species of lung).

I was wondering if it would be ok to try to grow them out together? The Lung is about 3", and the bichirs are about the same. Eventually, they would all be going in my 180, then into my 240 as their final home (no real plans to upgrade now. human baby #2 is en route).

I guess my concern is the growth rates. Do lungs grow quickly, or is it likely to get dwarfed by the bichirs?

Any input is appreciated.

Many people keep lungfish and bichirs in the same tank, so i don't see a problem there. Lungfish and bichirs' growth rate are almost similar, just be careful of your lungfish harassing your bichirs, they have a tendency of killing their tankmates. Provide hiding places for each of the fish will help a lot too. Hope this helped. :)

The other issue I would be aware of is that my lung is very slow on the uptake when it comes to feeding.
I drop the food in and it slowly sniffs around before finally finding it and eating.

I had a Platydorus cat with him, and the cat used to go and snatch the food away before the lung got near it.
I eventually got rid of the cat.
And even now. I have a few Severums in the tank, and they have learnt to go to the lung at feeding time, and some of them pull the strings of half chewed food out of its mouth!
