When I had my WAL I kept him alone because he was nasty. Was thinking of getting a SAL. It would be okay with my other fish but next month I want to add a school of 10, 8" clown loaches to my tank. I know they are more peaceful but SAL still have a strong bite. Would one go after my clown loaches when I get them? Clown loaches will be 8" and the SAL will be 12"+.

It will actually have an opposite problem. A 8" clown loach might think of a skinny 12" SAL as a worm. Or if the SAL is thicker then it may not be able to eat properly as the CL will take most of the food. Should be fine if the CL are much smaller. All lungfish have powerful bite but I don't think the SAL will try to bother the CL.

Oh really lol. Never thought about it like that. I will still get one anyways. See if I can get one bigger than 12". If any issues when I get the clown loaches I will sell him or put him in another tank.

I agree with Earl, but 12" SAL shouldn't be that skinny. I had my 9" SALs with 4" loach. :) No problem.

There is a big difference between a 4" clown loach and a 8" clown loach. I had 8-12" clown loaches and they are massive. They don't even have that shark shape appearance anymore. They can suck out snails without problem.

x2.

My local LFS has two 8" clown loaches on display; they're quite the little monsters!

I didn't say I had a clown loach. :grinno: I do know loaches 6"+ start looking massive. :) I've seen several 10" in person. Besides his Lungfish isn't an SAL. It's an African Lungfish, not sure if it was WAL or PAC/PAA.
