How do you people out there make your tanks look like the rivers of south america, plants, rocks, driftwood, substrate?

And also im going with a 125g, 150g or 180g and i was going to stock it with:

1 male jag
1 male green terror
1 male convict
3 clown loaches
4 silver dollars(not sure which species yet)

and i was wondering how to bring out these fish to make them look the best?

And also is that where i should stop the stocklist, or could i add some more?

its simple dude... hah feed ur fish the nice stuff with lowest amount of filler. also if u use live plants and such, get some nice big amazon swords. well not bigguns but lil ones i have my first planted tank and got 2 swords in it it had already bloomed 5 other sword plants from it its awesome here ill post a pic of it

alright thanks are you talking about the fuzzy ones or the straighter ones being the swords?

And also i wanna get some cool looking substrate like sand or something is this good for SA cichlids?

the straight ones are the swords. the large leaf ones the other ones are arica or sumthin i cant remember the name but idk if its from the amazon..... neways also i forgot to add in a varied diet also helps bring color out and keep your fish healthy such as when they are juvies feed them little hikari pellets, sinkin carnivore pellets, blood worms, earth worms, krill, mysis shrimp, maybe ocasionally treat them with feeders if ur into that. i know i am sometimes (like once a month for me) :P. i recently redid my tank. because i syphoned the garvel for the first time ( its only been up and running for a month and a half) and re did it and took the ship out and moved all the plants around and such i like it more now.
i have personally never wanted to sue a sand substrate because i was always so afraid of cleaning it. not sure how that works but i know that you can

You can't use plants with those large fish, they will rearrange your tank as they see fit :)

With large fish like that the fish speak for themselves, no need to decorate all crazy like for them - let the fish stand out.

in my tank ya they cant pull the swords cuz of the root systems run to deep tho. like in a month the roots on my swords tripled no way any of my fish could pull em out but they do pull the lil fuzzy ones up every once in a while but what can you do. they seem to pull them to the spots they want like into pots and such hah!

alright i got ya so what about driftwood, rocks, substrate? any ideas on some products for at least the substrate

all my drift wood were gifts from family members that didnt want em nemore so i was like yep ill take em i have about 5 pieces in my 55g. normally its really expensive at the lfs so i just stuck with what i got. and about rocks i have been looking for some nice cave rocks to replace my clay pots but yet to find any real rocks. and for me i just always use normal lookin substrate

ya but i wanted to give it that effect and i think im going to mix slate rocks with plant pots, and i think im gonna get either white or black sand anyone no which one would look cooler
