Buddy of mine has south americans and decides he wants to add his blue ahli, hes about 5-6 ". Is he askin for trouble?? He says the ahli is very mild.....think his tank is a 55g. Ive always understood...do not mix !!
.....waddya think trouble or not???

Some people keep africans with their central americans, but I dont think south americans would work because of aggression issues and a lot of SA cichlids like low ph.

Yea well the water conditions do differ for most american and african cichs. However unless your friend is getting a wild caught Ahli the fish will more than likely be acclimated to living in a more neutral PH. I have kept Ahli's and they can be nasty but so can most American cichlids. Like said above there is no way of knowing until he actually tries it. What is in the tank he is moving it into?

also it depends what types of south americans, since there's quite a difference from festivums to green terrors for example
