Taking another invasive fishing trip in January, wondering what your opinion is on mono vs braid for pbass and snakehead fishing. Also what lb test and if you use a leader. Personally I use 12lb braided and just set my drag, but I lost a few monsters last trip.
With all the vegetation, sticks, stumps, etc etc in FL freshwater, I use 30 lb power pro braid all day long with a palomar knot. Haven't lost a fish since I switched to that knot and 30lb power pro. Some say use a leader, some don't. I just spool up entirely braid.
I too would go a bit heavier, 20 or 30lb but 20lb should be plenty. Id uni-uni at least 4-6ft of fluro though. I never run braid directly to my bait unless its crazy dirty water.

Like I said, some do some don't. You find different levels of success with the fluro.
Personally, braid only hasn't affected my fishing in a positive or negative other than not losing fish due to weeds/lillies/etc. Caught many 4.5-5+ than I ever have in a single year with braid only. I do have 1 setup that's still on 10lb mono, it's my live bait rig.
i would reccomend braid for the really big fish like marlin or tough cover to fish in other than that i use mono for the for most part. when i do any sw fishing i rig my own leaders
Most of the canals in south Florida run clear and braid is not as productive as mono. Also vegetation is not an issue in most areas since canals are 10-20ft deep box cut out of the limestone. You'll most likely hook a rock ledge before a limb or lily pad. All that being said I do use 20lb powerpro with 10ft ,15lb test fluorocarbon leader tied to it. With this combo I've landed 60lb tarpon and 20lb snook that will catch you by surprise while Pbass fishing. If you are fishing clear water like at cutler ridge canal or 104 carry a combo with 8lb mono (I prefer magna thin)..
Braid is not used for big game trolling because of the lack of stretch. A fast moving fish hitting a fast moving bait needs the stretch of mono to avoid pulled hooks.
Personally I run mono on everything but my bottom fishing as well as vertical jigging set ups.
