ok im guessing its not toxic lol

but i picked up a 55g plastic drum to use for my pond filter and it was previously used for soy sauce

i filled it once with water and a cup or so of dish soap, then drained it, rinsed and filled it full of plain water, drained it, then rinsed and filled, drained, filled, rinsed, drained, and then filled it and plan to leave it sit over night

i know ive gotten the soap out of it, but it still smells like soy sauce

it just has the 2 bung holes on top (which is how i would like to keep it, and not cut it open) so i cant reach in to really scrub it down

i plan on rinsing it a few more times tomorrow, maybe one more soap job?

but im guessing it will still smell like soy sauce ... how bad is it if i cant get it squeaky clean?

the pond is 1100g just fyi

thanks

I have used many different barrels (even those used for chemicals), I find if I put the barrel under a rain gutter for a while, the rain will do the work for you.

I put an inexpensive fish or 2 in it to test if its safe.

Pretty much ANYTHING in a high enough concentration is poisonous. If your fish were swimming around in pure soy sauce I don't think they would be very happy.

I would have no compunctions about using the 55g barrel in its current state. The residual smell will take care of itself in a week or so of using the barrel as a filter. I would bet you would induce more soy sauce into your system by accidently splattering a drop of soy sauce into your pond. The effect would be negligible.

agreed !!!
there was maybe a cup at most of liquid in the barrel when i got it, and i know there is no visible soy sauce anymore, so after 4-5 rinsing there cant be more than drops of it lingering ... which i cant imagine would hurt anything in 1100g of water !!
