I believe i have just bought an sp. Fire & Ice, judging from the pictures i've seen on another website. Got it for $9. It was rotting in shop i visited just now, was in a tank(more like a cup) with less than litre of water. Was so bad it was almost white until i brought it home and put it in one of my spare tanks, colors coming back slowly. I will post pictures just in case so people like Brucki can help me verify it's actually an sp. Fire & Ice. As for now, i would like some information on the fish.

Things such as:

1. Water temperature
2. Maximum captive size
3. Diet
4. Natural Habitat
5. Aggressiveness and compatibility with other snakeheads

Thanks guys <: :nilly:

1. subtropical - less than 24c
2. unknown for sure but thought to be small - less than 9"
3. Carnivore - insects/prawns etc
4. Neutral to soft water, floating plants, bogwood - usual channa setup
5. Very aggressive and from what I have heard not so compatible with their own type and wouldn't be recommended to be kept with other fish either.

Photos will confirm.

Wouldn't be much use taking a photo now because the fish still isn't showing much color but it definitely has the distinctive red markings under the eye associated with sp. Fire & Ice. Was going to keep it with my Bleheris when it got bigger but i guess not now. Will still try to get pictures.

Thanks!

HI,

if its firnice, it will beat the **** out of the bleheri. They are too peacful to resist the attacks of a firnice.
For mor onfo read pallestopheles thread on breeding four undescribed species, firenice are amongst them and its the first captive breeding worldi+wide (not the first from Pascal)

So i still haven't been able to take a picture of the unidentified specimen i picked up for $9 at a LFS but i did scoop it out just now to take a look and although the colors were still really subdued, i could definitely see the red in the pectoral fins. I'm pretty confident it's a sp. Fire & Ice after referencing with the following picture.

Mine doesn't look like that at all. Is the one in the picture almost black because of its mating colors or is it always that coloration?

Mine has the red markings under the eye although right now it isn't really bright and the red pectoral fins as well. Occasionally i see brown stripes on its body along the dorsal fin.
