So now a lone red bellied Pacu needs a 1000 gallon tank according to the aquaria central crowd.........just thought I'd let you fish heathens know :D i guess no one will own one now unless they glass in a room in their house!

Even a 200 or 300 gallon tank is too small for a single Pacu.

I would consider getting a Pacu if I had a 1000 gallon tank.

RBPacus do grow to MONSTER size. They can hit the 3ft mark (and some say over) and 70 lbs. And with the long length comes almost the same height. This species can grow to a size and strength to literally become a tank-buster.
a 1000 gal tank would be great but, I think with proper filtration and maintenance, a 300 gal tank would suffice. Just ensure it's VERY thick-walled.

That's a defeatist statement. The goal is to provide accomodations to maintain a healthy specimen for life.
Truth is, these farm-bred pacus are so prolific that, after growouts for food markets and young destined for the world pet trade, many tens of thousands are destroyed annually for fertilizer production. An average spawn yields over 35,000 eggs per female. After the losses from poor management/housing, the few that do make it to Monster-level in aquaria are truely fortunate.
