Alright so ive always had fish, but i mostly keep freshwater, and its been 7 or 8 yrs since ive done saltwater. Well anyway i have a spare 45 gallon (36 long 12 wide 24 high), and my gf wants a sw really bad so i was thinking about useing the 45 and doing maybe a small reef or something. But like i said its been awhile so any suggestions/advice on stocking, etc ????????

well your gonna be limited to the smaller fish because of the tank size.. no tangs, no large angels, ect..

some fish to look at is reef safe wrasses, gobies, dartfish(including fire fish) clown fish, drawf angels ... sorry i cant heelp you on suggestions for corals as iam coral stupid

:ROFL:No such thing, just an expert in training. LOL

Are you familiar with the basics of saltwater? - The chemistry, equipment, supplements, etc.?

Do you currently have any filters, skimmers, lights, etc., which would work for saltwater and for corals, or would you need to purchase them all?

Give us a head's up of what you have and what you know (so that we don't slaughter you with information you already have), and then we can work from there.
Some of our stickies are tailored specifically for starting a new tank, and can be adjusted accordingly to the size you are working with. Check those out too!
There are several different fish you could house in a 45 (obviously not all at once), but as mentioned previously, you will be limited to the smaller ones. To add a few to the previous list - Damsels, Chromis, Some Anthias', Blennys, PipeFish (though these would require a very peaceful tank), Dottybacks, Basslets (most), and more.
