Is this florida or spatula? I cant tell the diff. Thx

How big is it in this picture? Do you have a pic from the top? That’ll be the easiest. At least for me to id. Sometimes these side pics can be deceiving when they don’t have typical markings.

*typical for a juvenile. A larger Florida looks like this pattern. But so does smaller alligator.

Florida gar.

Here’s a pic of an a.spatula. See the obvious wide snout.

Mmmm ok... so the wide of its snout is one way to differentiate them ya?

He just got in to the tank today so his spots are still fading i guess?.

They typically darken up and “pattern out” once they’re established and not stressed. The short, wide snout is a definite obvious physical trait. Alligator gar eyes also sit lower than their mouth. Looks like a smile to me. Sometimes it’s more obvious than other pics.

And maybe I’m wrong. But from the video it looks like a Florida gar to me.
