This is their third attempt now, no luck this time around either. But i thought i'd share anyway. I still see 50 odd eggs that haven't "yet" turned white, you can make some of them out in my poor quality pictures. I doubt they'll make it though.

Nice pair, are you sure the male isn't sterile?

I'm yet to wittness whether he is in fact attemping to fertilise, but this is a possibilty and was something i planned on bringing up at a later date, when i could get a shot of his sex organ. (My cam is a cheapy and cannot focus on something that small.)

The querey i have is that his sex organ appears to have two stringy thread like things on the end, about 3mm in length, which sway in all directions with the current from fins. As stated it is proving impossible to get a clear pic of this, so that is out of the question. This is the first time i've taken that much notice of any of my cichlids sex organs so am unsure if this is normal. From the description i've provided, can anyone offer some "Knowledgable" insight?

hmmm have you checked your water parameters? i think some water conditions might inhibit egg growth?
that was a very graphic description of your male festae's thingy btw... lol

I hope that the eggs got fertilized. The one thing that leads me to believe that they may not is the male's lack of breeding dress. That is, usually when the male is in spawning mode, he changes his colors showing his black bars. He almost looks like a female festae during this time.

from the pictures it looks pretty obvious that the male is a male.
maybe he just needs some more practise...
