spawning fish growth slower?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
my two severums have slowed in growth alot. they are still growing though. my female has slowed more than the male.

It is very common for spawning females to almost stop growing once they start laying. It makes sense energy that used to be for growth is diverted to egg production. For best growth, keep females away from males of any species.

I don't know for sure but I'm not entirely convinced that spawning will reduce growth to such a drastic extent in most fish - as females produce eggs regardless when they come of age.

from my understanding, its the egg production that slows growth, and pheremones given off by males are what trigger the egg production.

makes sense, from a biological point of view, for a female to produce eggs only if there are mature males around. until then, growth helps ensure survival of the species.
