I woke up this morning to find my pair of G. steindachneri spawning.

This is their second spawn, their first was about a month ago. Those fry are now around 1/2" and growing fast. The best part is that my wife didn't even argue when I said I needed to set up another tank to grow out the first batch - Women are suckers for babies. :grinno:

Anyhow, just a few so-so photos with my P&S Olympus. Notice the eggs in the last two shots.

congrats! mine used to spawn like rabbits.. get him a few more females and they will almost spawn back-to-back-to-back.

Excellent pics, espec those close ups including eggs !

Love Steinies !!

How much, if any, aggression did you see from the male to the female during spawning ?

They look great and good luck on the spawn.

Congrats, nice pic's too!
I was given some little guys from a friend a month or so ago. They were 1/2 " or so. Now they're definately over an inch and coloring up nice. Hope I have a pair. But I must say, my friends G.S's breed like rabbits!

They look great.. Let me know when those babies are ready for new homes, might have to grab a few for my geo tank..;)

Thanks! I have thought about getting more females, but I don't know how many babies I want to grow out.

I was really glad I got those egg shots, I just happened to be there at the right time and they were spawning right out in the open near the glass.

The male hasn't ever been very aggressive towards the female at all. They actually get along really well as just a pair. This probably has to do with the fact that there are twenty-four other cichlids and dozens of tetras to distract him. He does lash out at some of the other fish a bit before spawning, but in general he is fairly peaceful.

Thanks! They certainly are prolific. It also helps that they are mouthbrooders, it makes it really easy to get a successful spawn.

I will, I would love to get them a Monster Home! I'm not sure how far up Lynwood is, but I'm an hour south of Portland, so we could probably meet there.

I live east of Salem about 1/2 hour. I could probably meet you in Salem, but if you want to see a cool LFS that has been in business for thirty years (lots of oddballs and monsters) we should meet at the Animal House in Corvallis. It is probably 1/2 hour drive from Albany, but I think it would be well worth the trip.
