Spawning Red Jewels...with pictures.

We have one pair in a 29 gallon thats spawned at a ph or 7.6 and a temp of 85. and the pictured pair in a 55 gallon with the same perams. We started out with a group of small jewels and let them form pairs. One female and one male from each group will color up as they go into condition and then select a secure (flintstone house) spawning site.
IME they need other fish in the aquarium as dithers to spawn. I pull the majority of the fry to raise in fry tanks but leave 20 or 30 with the pair. They spawn every two weeks or so once they get started and seem to prefur a planted and heavilly decorated tank.

Great pics! I want to breed these guys down the road just for fun but for now I wouldn't be able to get rid of the fry if I offered them up for free lol. Maybe when Im in the big city

. Good luck with the children!Only 15 survived from the first batch but I pulled at least 100 very early. I do have a market for them by the way...
Other than more red jewels....the tankmates are all Syndonis Petracola that I'm growing out to form breeding pairs. That and a pleco or so.....
