I saw this fish at my local Pets@Home with no labels on, there was no staff so was wondering if you guys could help me, my first thought was could it be a rainbow or yellow acara although not sure with all the black spots running central :/

Not good qualitity images I am sorry, the dorsal and caudal fine are lined with red although appears white on these images.
Any suggestions on the species?
Thankyou.

It's an African cichlid. It kind of looks like my Pelmatochromis nigrofasciatus. They have the same gill spot and the white edging on the fins, but yours is missing a few of the nigrofasciatus characteristics (black spot in the dorsal, second row of black markings above the one shown, etc.), so it's probably a different species. Hopefully someone more experienced with Africans will come along.

Thank you Matt, I seemded to assume S/C America cichlid dont no why must have been it fairly large size.

Ryan- if that is your Severem(avatar), I must say Wow, what a stunner!

I caught two (tilapia mariae) on a fishing trip once. Pretty nice fish and eats all kinds of algae (even cyano).
