Species Tank vs. All Male Tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'd go with the all-male tank since I like to have a tank with some variety (I assume this about haps or peacocks)

It just depends on what you trying to accomplish. Are you wanting a beautiful show tank or are you wanting breed them?

If you want a nice show tank, go with a all male tank.

If you want to breed a species you need to keep them separate, so they don't interbreed. This will not make a very good show tank since their will more than likely be one nice male and a few half colored up males, and you can expect plenty of aggression. I prefer to just have one male in a species tank.

Depends on the tank size too... regular 6'ers you can have a few breeding groups (2-3) ..400+gal you can imagine there's place for more :D

As mentioned above, all-male tank is a simple, yet very esthetically pleasing option.

Im a big fan of teh all male MALAWI tanks!:D:headbang2:ROFL:

But lately ive found a species that Ive heavily considered having a species only tank. I think by having a species only tank you get to experience all the different behaviors of a fish including breeding behavior which is the most ineresting to me.

Malawi I'd say male only keeps the aggression down and most males color up fully without females present

Victorians I'd say 1-2 m's per f............they color up better and hold it longer with the presents of f's

I want a show tank, but I also really like my placidachromis electra, but I think I'll continue to do a all male tank, I just need to see if I have females in the tank and get them out.
