H. vitattus and Golden Dorado are both monstrously costly to buy, yet in the wild they're by no means uncommon in the wild.
Yet Brycon spp. are/might be somewhat more common in the wild, would be (I'm guessing) similarly delicate in transport yet are far less costly to buy.
Please explain. Is it a false value based on bad reputations, like a Harley?

The Dorado used to be quite cheap when they came in at a small size, thirty dollars each. But I have not seen them come in at two and three inch sizes in a few years. The bigger the Dorado, the higher the price for it....The ATF is rarely under one hundred dollars even at small sizes but I think their price reflects that they are only collected in certain parts of Africa which may not always be safe, for various reasons. The various brycon just don't seem to be as sought after as the other fish mentioned fish.I have seen them for as high as seventy dollars each though.
