Spilo or Mac - a year later - You tell me.

I bought this guy a year ago labeled Spilo and was ID'd here as a Maculatus but now shows signs of Spilopleura - clear terminal band on the tail fin and no black on the ventral fins. He was 1" last year 5" now. I'm no expert and finding non-contradictory info is all but impossible. x-J-x from Pfury has a pic of an adult spilo used on P-info that is an exact carbon copy to the fish I see everday.

So, 10 years ago that would have been a S. spilopleura. However, that was correctly identified as S. maculatus a few years ago.

So the defference is more or less the head shape (like a Rhom) than type of body markings?

Ballin' thanks - the pictures really don't do much justice, his belly is bright yellow as are the lower fins. Also has the most impressive set of ever present choppers, pretty large for a small fish.

That is a S. Maculatus.
