does anyone know if these will work as a mechanical filter for aquariums? im thinking about using one to run an enclosed loop filtration.. so it would go from the tank to the spin down filter to the external pump to a bio tower and back to the tank? any one have any thoughts or ideas?

i called rusco "spin down filters" they said if i have a pump that does over 1gpM then it will work fine and will even back flush the filter during water changes so ill never need to wash filter socks or other mechanical sponges.. im thinking about making the bio tower out of 4 inch pvc pipe and filling it with lava rock or ceramic rings? just not sure how well the water will flow threw it or how big of a pump ill need
spin down filters are coming from rusco... the problem im going to run into is the fluidized sand bed filters can only have about 300gph max running threw them. and i wanted to use this setup for my only filtration for my new 400 gallon tank.. that simply just wont be enough water flow
Split the FBF onto a separate line with a valve of sorts and then you can run the SDF with whatever flow that you want to and dial the FBF down.
