this may sound stupid, but its something i need to know so i know if i can move my polys to the 1100g or not.

are any of the spines on polys extremely sharp and pointy?? i know some fish have extremely pointy spines that can easily puncture through a liner, yet other fish their fairly flexible.

and no, im not sticking my hand in there to find out the hard way. im hoping someone else did that for me already :p

Yes it can able to punctr skin if you try and hold on to them. Learned that the hard way when I try to hold my ornate and took picture of it while I was holding it. 4 spines punctured my palm.

X 2 They are sharp and strong. Very similar to the dorsal spines on bass, perch, sunfish etc. Good defense against being swallowed in the wild.
Nothing like having a thrashing fish drive one in to your hand:)
Good luck with the move, there is some good info in the FAQ section on moving larger fish.

As others have stated, they are very sharp. I got cut twice and I still have not learn. Both times I was left with a nice gash on the palm of my hands. what I do now is scoop it in net then quickly wrap a light towel around the net to kept them from thrashing all over the place. Polys are very muscular fish so they're fight very hard to get out of the net. By the way, their spine is so sharp that they have scratched my acrylic tank.

thats what i needed to know. guess they wont be moving into the big pond afterall....cant ake the chance of the liner being punctured :(

gonna hafta find a big tank now for them eventually. shouldent have sold the 250

ive never had my hands punctured or gashed by the spines coz i use nets, yet i cud feel the pain while reading this thread... ouch!

Well , i read this thread i decided to test it out (well...a few cuts cant hurt right?) so i touched it ... nothing? Maybe its because it was small. Like 4 inches
