my giant gourami drew blood the otherday, blood ran of my hand infact! thrashed in the net an stabed me, he's 12 inch though! be careful not to drop it aswell, good luck!

i know its not lol, same spines though, sorry shoulda clarified!-)

If your severum is large enough and it panics while you are handling it, a spine in the hand or finger is likely. I tried to strip fry from my large Atabapo severum and she got me good when she tried to fight against me.

What type of severum are you trying to vent? There shouldn't be a reason to vent most severums because you can sex them by their markings if they're old enough.

easiest way is try pick it up from head to tail so the spikes point back instead of into your hand, once its in the net though trying to pick it up will be easy.

Hi, do all cichlids have spines on their dorsal fins? I want to vent my severum but I'm worried about getting spiked

Most perciformes (cichlids, basses, sunfish, perch, etc.) have spines in the front part of the dorsal fin. I think you're right that all cichlids would have that. Maybe some one can correct that if there's an exception.

Agreed.

If you post a clear picture we'll try to help you.
