i went in to the lfs today and saw they had spiny eels for sale. sweet as i asked to see the fish guy to get some info on them. waited half a hour and he came out. ahh ok what do u want he said. i said these spiny eels here how big do they get he said 45cm(28inch). i asked a few more question and he was most rude to me, sighing and huffing at me. he end up walking off on me. complete **** head. so i didnt come out with any info on them. here is my fish tank and turtle tank.

questions start here: so how big does this eel get? what is its food? will it eat my other fish, or if in turtle tank will it attack him ? jos fish 079.jpg

thanks for your time and advice. troy

Thats a peacock eel.
Turtle will happily eat it. Gets 10'' and are IMO hard to get to eat anything other than worms.
Also, they have TINY mouths, so they can't eat any fish other than fry.

o ok, my turtle is only about 2inch diametre shell, and theres heaps of rocks and hidy holes for him. i was more worried about the eel attacking my turtle.

I bought a similar eel a few days ago, my understanding is that with clean water and a healthy diet they reach roughly 12" give or take a few. I havent been able to get mine to eat anything but frozen blood worms but he/she is a great addition to my tank. They are known to hide and burrow in the substrate most of the time but my little guy is just as active as everyone else in the tank and hasnt burried himself yet. Nice pick up in my opinion, make sure the lid is tight with no gaps as they are supposed to be escape artists... I have noticed mine investigating all the nooks and cranny's searching for an opportunity to get a breath of fresh air...

Well i suggest you get a peacock eel and they dont get 40cm more like 25-30cm, i have never seen one take pellets before, so you will have to feed it primarily worms and frozen foods. Now you said your tank is 45cmH 40cmW and 25cmD,the eel will be able to live in tehre for a while since tehre slowish growers. But then again if you wish to breed bristlenose in the tank go for it, although the fry wont grow really fast.
