i dont know too much about the 'spiny eel' i was thinking of getting one for my african cichlid tank. i have some small fish in my tank. are these loaches known to pick on/eat smaller fish?

welll first spiny eels arn't loaches and second it depends on which one you get some range from no not really to yes definatly tire track eels love small fish but peacock spiney eels have small mouths and could on'y eat tiny fish like guppy fry or young guppys

im looking to get a macrognathus circumcinctus. it gets 8"

thats the zig zag eel right and if so there small like really small friend has one thats about 2 years old in a 29gallon and is just over 6'' but no thay can't eat fish but thay burrow alot so thay wouldn't hurt your cichlids but thay might think its a big worm

ive had loads of fun with my eels, they love frozen blood worms and will usually hide all day. but dont know if your cichlids will pick on it.

i have a spiny peacock, about 8" what besides blood worms and ghost shrimp would he eat?

Mine is probably at about 9". I've been feeding him Canadian night crawlers cut in half and he's been making snacks out of the zebra danios & ghost shrimp that are sharing the tank with him. I think he also ate 3 glass catfish. He's just lucky that he's my favorite in that tank. It's like having an underwater puppy.

try cutting up some night crawlers mine loves those

ohh no what type of eel did you get and how small are the fish in your tank tire track eels would work well they don't start to eat fish till there like 10''
