Canada... i wish.
ok so are these guys just like frt? im selling my silver aro and i was wondering if i can replace him with a spiny soft shell? tankmates will be a jardini and 6 bichirs, tank temp 80F

do these guys need a heating lamp and/or basking area?

they dont need basking areas but theres an almost garuntee it will kill your fish. and male, or female will both outgrow that tank. i suggest upgrading your tank for you fish and getting a smooth softshell for you 125. solo of course.

soft shells are WAY more aggressive than any FRT. If you are going to keep one, it needs to be alone or in a MASSIVE pond. Preferably, both.

I had a 5 inch male for about 3 hour's in my 265 He didn't bother any of the fish or rays in there. But then he went to his new owner :( i has just holding it for a few hour's. But I think as long as you get a male you will be ok. Males only get up to about 8 inches so one could live in your 125 for life.

The one I had was super cool and loads of fun to watch. If I can find another small male I will most certainly buy it for my show tank. He Should't* bother the fish but you never know. Id say go for it and get one

PS..also it might help if you get baby and grow it up with fish to big for it to eat that way it Might* get used to being with fish and not attack them. Just a thought.

No offense but I don't think that you should base your opinion on keeping one for three hours. they mainly hunt at night and I have seen some softies take down fish larger than the were. again, no offense...

I really don't think it is a good idea.

Well that is true some of them are downright nasty. But you could say the same about FRT they are sp known to be fish killer's but some of them couldn't care less about eatting/killing fish. Oh and I forgot to mention that the guy who i got the one i held had it in with loads of small/md cichlids and the turtle never ate/killed any of them.

just my 2 cents.

Put a basking platform in there. Mines is always on the platform until he sees me coming. I always catch tne ones outside in the pond basking on the log until they see me, then its splash into the water.
