I want to split a 75 gallon fish tank in half so one side uses a heater and the other side doesn't. I thought of cutting out a glass sheet, using it to divide the tank, and sealing it with silicone but my concern is that the temperature of one side would transfer through the glass. Does anyone have a solution? I'd rather not get rid of the tank, thanks!

Its possible but not really practical. You could install two panes or glass with a space between them. The air would add some insulation but if it wasn't enough you could add a piece of foam.
But it would be better to get another tank. Just pick up a 30 or 40 gallon.
What kind of setup are you planning?

If you really have your mind set on that tank you could try using 2 panels of glass leaving a gap between the 2 or putting some styrofoam for insulation.

as Big-g and gutted have said your going to need two panels. Its not worth the hassle.. Its like putting a match under a water bottle, it wont burn through because the water on the other side is constantly cooling it.

Thanks for the responses guys. I wanted to use one side for fish that need 80+ degrees Fahrenheit and the other side for a aquatic plants. Most aquatic plants do not do well in high temperatures. I guess splitting it is too troublesome and impractical. I will probably get another tank.
