Split bottom lip on baby RTGG

I just got myself a 3'' RTGG yesterday and woke up this morning to find its bottom lips split in two,kind of hanging off on each side.His bottom jaw still opens and closes,but hasnt eating anything today.Iv put him in a quarantine tank and have added salt to help heal but i was wondering if it will eventually fall off and regrow back to normal.Has anyone had this problem happen to them? Any help is much appreciated as ive wanted one of these guys for a while now and this bloody happens:irked: Cheers
 
I believe it will fall off and grow back as you described , it might not look perfect though , you should remove the decore/Object that caused this injury if possible , so further damage Can't be caused. Also did you get your RT online? or at a LFS (i've been searching for one )
 
I hope it grows back normal.im not sure whether to trim it or not,im just worried its to small to do that.In australia theres a few going around at the moment,not cheap though anywhere from $350 to $450.

Really? my LFS had a baby for 4$ once but thats when I just started fish keeping with a 25 gallon , for some reason it's really cheap there discus are only 20$ each , I wouldn't trim it ,it might cause more stress to the gourami then to just let it grow back naturally, if it doesn't heal or turns a really odd colour in that area ( Dead looking) then you might want to call a vet .....or trim it.
 
Sorry for the fish. Hmmm, the injury could be due to decor. This is why i have barebottom in all my tank

What's a RTGG? Sorry for a newbie question
 
hey my large great barrier reef clown is showing the same symptoms. could it be a parasite of sometype etc? it actually started out as a sore or ulcer but i just got home from work to find his bottom lip split in 2 and it bleeds if he bumps it. any ideas?
