Has anyone split a tank for 2 species?

I want to have 2 specific species of Calvus, but want to keep them separated. They are going into either a 180 or 135 and I want to split the tank in 2 halves. Both tanks are acrylic so I can put a divider in? Anyone have experience?

that should not be a problem, the only concern to me would be finding a large enough divider, the biggest split tank i've seen is 55 gallons

I know people who have made them cheaply and easily.

Thanks for the confidence, but out of what? I was thinking 2 sheets of think plexi cut to the inside dimensions of the tank, and a plastic mesh sandwiched between. Free flow for water, but small enough to keep fry on either side? Huh? :naughty: Huh? :naughty:

I made a ghetto one out of eggcrate, and it works pretty well. Cons would be cleaning algae off it, and it's pretty easy for fish to cut themselves on it from bashing into it.

Not to mention fry can slip through. It has to be mesh. I just need to find some kind of mesh that will be small enough and durable enough.

if you've got extra filters or depending on what type of filter you have, you could always try completely isolating each side of the tank. completely seal off down the middle and treat it as 2 separate tanks.

Agreeable, but that defeats my intention. Let's say you have tiger oscars and albino oscars. Both would have the exact same water parameter needs, but you want them separate for when/if they bred. I know about moving the parents or the fry, but I would still like to have them separated, but in the same body of water.
