Until now the convicts aggression even during spawning has been there but not intense.

Well things have changed and the female convicts are looking a little beaten.

Current Tank (50G US)
--------------------------------
4 x Convicts (1 Male, 3 Females)
6 x Tiger Barbs
1 x Bushy Pleco

This is my proposed splitting.

50G US Tank
--------------------------------
1 x Convict (Male)
6 x Tiger Barbs
1 x Bushy Pleco

22G US Tank
--------------------------------
3 x Convict (Female)

Now my question is can either of these tanks support any other tank mates?

If you leave just the one convict in the 50 you can possibly try bottom fish, maybe one of the smaller synodontis, but I'd try to keep a pair together if possible

why not leave the females in the 55 and the male alone in the 22?

I was looking at adding more fish. Possibly another cichlid if I could find one the convict male would tolerate or at least equate with.

What are the dimensions on this tank? Females can be even meaner than males, especially when laying eggs, so one or two females might be your max for that tank. Often two females will pair up and defend a batch of eggs, leaving your third at risk for abuse.

I think in your 50g you could do a convict pair and one other cichlid that stays under 8" or so...

I had 3 females with my male once and the females were the one beating each other up a 22 would probly be to small if I get any females in the futer to breed my males I will just keep them in pairs so no one gets beat up.

I figured the females and males separated the aggression would be minimal being that there will be no spawning.

And knowing that ...

Maybe the 3 females in the 22G with lots of hiding spots.

Could maybe take on a ram or krib with lots of rock work.

and

Maybe with the male in the 50G I could take on a Firemouth or a Serverum.

i dont think you can put anything else in there sorry
