Planning on setting up a 40 gallon long breeding tank with an older fluval 203 canister filter. For added filtering and water flow was thinking about adding a hydro pro sponge iv with a powerhead. Just wondering what size I see Hagan makes the 10 that is 80 gph. Should I go bigger was also thinking of maxijet 400 that is 110 gph. Thanks.

If you put a powerhead on your sponge filter, it will be functioning primarily as a mechanical filter and will need to be cleaned frequently. Better to use an air-driven box filter (and a pre-filter on your canister).

Any suggestions on the box filter and pump for a 40 L. The canster is a Fluval 203. I'll mainly be using a 40 gallon long bare bottom with a group of peacock flametails.
