I plan to build two ponds this summer. Been reading on monsterfishkeepers on pond ideas and looking on youtube. Been reading and looking at videos of DIY filters etc..... Curious if its a good idea to connect a tube from the pump that has a bunch of holes in it, then stuff a long thick sponge through it so the water basically gets filtered in the pond first. Would this work?

I do this same concept in my fish tanks now where I use a power head and I connect a tube to it with a sponge. It gives a lot of water movement and filters my tanks pretty well.

yes it will work, it will clog quickly , a debris handling pump would be best so cleaning n filter would remain outside the pond

thank you!

A prefilter on the intake would work fine, if that's what you mean.
