Sponge filter in Pleco tank.

I decided to add sponge filter and they like to munch on it. Any of you ever experience this? I was thinking the sponge filter is a great second filter but they just tear it up!

I feed them once a day and i dont starve them. Seems like the Goldie is mainly the one thats doing it but not sure if the others join when the lights are off.

Mine does the same thing. Does not seem to affect their health. I think they are just chewing on them to try to get the layer of aufwuch that's very plentiful on the sponge filters.

Plecos like to graze on them. It sounds like they are finding food on it

The pieces clog up the filter!

Yup, they sure do! Mine's done that from day one. After a while, the chewing off of sponge seem to have slowed down. I don't see much sponge pieces on the filter inlet or pads anymore.
