So I am tossing around the idea of potentially doing a paludarium in my 20g long (I know the pictures are of a 10g). I got the idea to use filter pads to set the base of the land side from ants Canada vampire crab setup. (Here's the link if you haven't seen)
I was thinking of using the sponge as a sponge filter for the tank at the same time. I want to make a waterfall over the land part. My question is would the average air pumps be strong enough to get the water through that much sponge? I would ideally be putting the PVC pipes where the rocks are, I could just do one if that would work better, idk if one would work better or 3

It really depends on how wide the pvc uptake tubes are and how high you're carrying the water. I think you should probably go with something pretty small, maybe 1/2" if you want three pipes. If its me, i would do two 3/4" uptakes.

What sort of diffuser do you plan to use? Just air stones? Look into jetlifters from swisstropicals. They might come in handy for this application.

As far as pump strength goes, its really about how much water you want flowing. I would definitely get something on the powerful side to move some water. Look into one of these. I have one and it packs a punch for the price. Not too loud either.

Cool idea for sure. Keep us posted.

Will do if I end up doing it. I was just nervous the water won't make it through all that sponge fast enough to keep the waterfall flowing.

Search fishman on youtube. No he's not me but he was doing experiments lifting water with air bubbles. You might find something useful to your project.

Will do.

Cool idea...why not just use a small powerhead? It’s quieter and many of them can be adjusted to control output?

Again I'm just nervous that the water won't flow back there fast enough. A powerhead would burn up if it's not getting enough water, the pump would just blow air.
