hi

i have a uk 75g tank that run purley on stack of huey hung sponge filters connected to a powerhead.

no ive never had any ammonia problems with this tank and free ammonia is normally between 0.005 and 0.008.

now any one else that runs sponges..... how often do you clean them? As i keep finding that there can be a buildup of mulm and particles on the filter, you know where the sponge goes brown. like with internal powerfilters i would normally clean them as the sponges would clog and slow the flow.

but with the sponge filters i keep finding if i leave the build up it dissapers.... where is it going, are the fish eating it? there is no way that its getting sucked through the sponge as the ppi is too dense.

I normally clean my sponge filter when I do a water change. Just squeeze the sponge in a bucket of the removed water. With powerheads, the mulm (brown gunk) just gets broken down into smaller particles. It is sucked into the sponge. You will be amazed at how much stuff is in the sponge when you squeeze it out.

Does anyone else have problems with huey hung uplift piping being a strange size its like 3mm shy of an inch thus i am having awlful problems keeping it connected to the power head. :(

im trying to run the below setup but everytime i clean it the uplift tubes break off the power head and next filter connection as they are 1 inch connections. I have tried to gule them in place with a glue gun, this works but only untill the next time i need to clean the filters as this glue breaks down over time.

does anyone know of a way to fix the piping to the connections whilst taking up the 2-3mm slack. Surley there has to be something better than electrical tape...

Get an AquaClear powerhead adapter: http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl...c9QUdujHtji4AOBgYGAAQ&ved=0CHkQ9QEwBg&dur=533

100% Silicone. Rough the areas you want to adhere with sand paper. Rinse dust off and dry well. Silicone them into place. Allow to dry thoroughly. Leech in a tub of water (I leech everything for safety) then use.
