I want to add a sponge filter to my 80g tank. What kind of sponge filters do all the MFKer's currently use? Where can i get the best price for the setup without air pump?

Sponge filters cant handle high biological loads. They are mainly used in fry tanks. For big tanks, if you want good biological filtration you can go for fluidized bed filters. A bit expensive though...

Depends on the sponge filter in question ;)

Up here in MN sponge filters are what the majority of the MAS (Minnesota Aquarium Society) members use on all their tanks and just have high powered air pumps.

The biggest con I have found to using sponge filters is the physical room they can take up in a tank.

Good AQua clear would be a lot better. I had a sponge on my 90 with a large pump that was virtually useless. I threw it out and put a smaller aquaclear filter on with my 110. Tank is now crystal clear.
