Hello

This is my first post and I was wondering what every one thought about sponge filters and there effectiveness for smaller tanks like 55 gallons and down. I ask because Ive noticed a lot of the better fish rooms and stores run off them. All the local experts I have talked to say they are great because they are long lasting and and economical are these there only strength's or are there more.

Any information or pictuers would be great.

Thank you

Corey.

^ have a look through that thread in the link. It is a sticky one of our members put together and very informative. Myself, I love sponge filters. I always have 1 or 2 in each tank no matter the size.

Anyone has an idea on how to clean the internal piping of a sponge filter? I am talking about the variety in the photo below.

When I say "internal piping", I mean the thin channel which is bored through the stem around which the sponge itself is wrapped around. As far as I could make out, the air driven by a pump goes right through this thin channel and comes out through the wider outer bore drawing in the water through the sponge filter in the process.

Sponges are great for bio filtration and I have 2 in my 240, as for cleaning out the internal piping I've used pipe cleaners
