Sponge pre-filter for AC110

What's the best way to accomplish this? putting it on a 20L with sand and don't want it to get in the impeller...
 
take a block of sponge.. stab it with a knife... then stick it over the intake....

you are going to want a hunk of sponge that atleast 4x4x4.. its only going to sit a few inches above the sand and its going to stir the heck out of it... a ac110 is a lot of filter for a 20 long

yes it is a lot, more is better though and it's going to have a fairly heavy stock with lots of feeding. It'll be ok, have done it before just with barebottom. :D
