I have a noob question about sponge filters. I have a Whisper power filter on one tank (it sucks but it was cheap so thats what I have for the moment). Can I just put a sponge filter sponge on the intake and get the benefits of a sponge filter or does it just not work like that?

You will have to clean it on a regular basis or you will lose your flow rate.

So is there a big advantage to a sponge over a power filter setup? I am just trying to figure out what I should do with my redone 10g. It has a Whisper 5-15 on it now and it kinda sucks.

The advantages are that they are awesome mech filters, they can sustain a large bio-colony, and they are cheap. The down side is that they clog easily.

always use a sponge as additional filtration! :D i love mine, i run an AC at all times, especially when i know i'm gonna have a high bioload

DEJA VU is happening as i type thisss!!! sppoookkkyyyy
