Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone out there knows a good place to get sponge for placing over the intake of my power filters. I have about 10 tanks I would like to place sponge over the power filter intake tube (pre-filter) and I don't quite know where I can purchase just the sponge or what brand name I should search for. Any help would be appreciated.

I do not know if you have seen it, but there is a "STICKY" at the top of the Set-Up and Filtration Forum, entitled "The Woefully Underappreciated Sponge Filter". In that sticky, there may be some information of what you are looking for, so it may be benefical to you, to read it and see what information you find. If you still have a question concerning your initial question, send a PM to "aclockworkorange", the OP of the STICKY. I'm thinking he will be happy to help you with your initial question, after you read the STICKY.

On a lighter note, if you google your inquiry, you may find your answer. Aditionally, I do know Dr.'s Foster & Smith Aquatics website, sells sponge filters. Look at their site and see if you can find what you need. I hope this helps. Good luck with your search. ~David

I just cut a notch in an aquaclear sponge and put the intake into it. Works well in the fry and invert tanks.

F&S sells this sponge prefilter

It includes a few fittings that will enable it to attach to most intake tubes. Or, you can keep your existing intake tube and strainer in place and just buy the sponge refills to slip over the tube. It will have a hole at the bottom, so you will have to plug it with another piece of sponge or other material, but that's no big deal. Hsd's suggestion to use the aquaclear refill sponges will also work. I buy mine from this seller on ebay.

They are dirt cheap and identical to the Aquaclear branded ones you get in the pet store.

yeah i did this too and it works well. I bought a few ac110 foams and cut them into 2 pieces and slit them in the middle and stuck the power head cone in.

I agree. Cheap and easy. Make sure you take them off and rinse them (in tank water) when you clean your filters.

i just buy the coarse sponge that goes with ac110 filters, cut it to size, make a small hole in the middle and place the intake of my filter through it, works like a charm
