spoonheads

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
in asian aros they are, they call them king aros i think.

Spoonheads are sought after in red & depending on the individuals preference sometimes gold too. King aros however may have the spoonhead trait but it different. Kings aros are called so because of the extra long pec fins, tail etc. & are sometimes short bodied. Some people classify a FFL (Fa Fu Long) as a king as well.

I actually bought this aro thinking it was special because of the spoonhead it had. It grew out of it though. you can see the dip in it head

i bought one silver myself thinking its a sought after trait, but i guess its not that sought for a silver. still my aro looks good with its scooped head.

its something old-school asian aro keepers really look for. though this depends on individual preference, basically yes....it is a sought after trait. this trait is mostly applied with selections for super red arowanas especially the chilli reds, and even with rtg's. though it sometimes appear in x-backs also, but with regards to this variety bullet heads are considered more desirable. as a testament to the importance of this trait, arowanas which exhibit severe spoonheads (even looking like a hunch-back specimen) are given the title "king arowana". this trait normally does not occur with the south american aros (silver and black), but mild spoonheads are also sometimes shown by the australian aros (jardinis and leichardtis).

Severe hunchback & usually short body..basically it can be classified as a deformity in the case of FFLs. Certain fams are famous for spoonhead golds in Singapore & reds in Indonesia.
