My new fingerling aro has black and orange spots behind his gills, about 1/2" straight back from his eyes. They are symmetrical in location, however it appears to be one "scale" on one side and two "scales" on the other . He's always had this, he's colorful but what is this? And here is where I would type 100 what if's.

hi :)
think its normal for small silvers to have that :)
it'll disappear eventually :)

is it like this? the one behind the gills

thats normal mei, juvenile aros usually have camouflage coloration to be able to hide in wild vegetation and confuse their predators. those colors disappear as the grow older and bigger
